Welcome to Bear's Big Adventures
The primary purpose of this web site is to share information gathered in pursuit of my hobby, SCUBA diving, details about trips around Australia and overseas, characters I have met along the way and the various ship wrecks that I have dived on over the years.
While not quite covering the same sort of adventures that Alby Mangels (his official site), the Leyland Brothers, or even Steve "Croc Hunter" Irwin (1962-2006) have, each of my adventures displayed on this web site, at least to me, is unique in it's own way. Yes, there may be some "non-adventure" parts here but having your own piece of the web means you can be self-indulgent. Besides, it allows me to share some of the images that I have captured under the other 70% of the Earth where most people never venture.
A little about me...
Being based in Melbourne, Australia, I am fortunate to have a whole range of wrecks to dive on, virtually, in my own backyard. These wrecks range from the twisted metal plates of the Hurricane (a 1200 ton iron ship, built in 1853 and sinking on the 20th April 1869 in 12metres of water) through to those located in Bass Strait at depths well beyond normal recreational diving limits.
Why is the site primarily about wrecks?
There is something about man-made objects that should be floating on the water that now lay on the seabed that has a mystery all of it's own. Australia being so remote has a rich marine history and there are over 700 wrecks located along the coastline of Victoria. Many people are unaware of the historical wrecks that divers in Victoria are so lucky to dive on a regular basis let alone the impact these vessels made on early life in our colony. Besides, wrecks don't move all that much so you can take your time setting up a shot!!
Enough rambling now, I hope you enjoy the site!
